The RCMP marks 150 years of service

The RCMP is known around the world for both policing excellence and the iconic image of the Mountie in their Red Serge uniform.

On May 23rd, 2023, the RCMP will mark it’s 150 years of service to the public and Canada since it’s May 23rd, 1873 “birth date” when an Act of Parliament established a “Mounted Police Force for the North-West Territories”. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police was officially formed as it’s known today in 1920 through the absorption of the Dominion Police by the Royal North-West Mounted Police.

The RCMP has continued to grow ever since, providing policing services in 8 provinces and 3 territories, 150 municipalities and 600 Indigenous communities through more than 750 detachments from coast to coast to coast.

In order to mark this momentous occasion, a special-edition RCMP150 logo has been unveiled and is available on a number of limited edition merchandise.
